Our daughter, Cathy Lou, had just finished the 8th grade on a Thursday in June. She hadn't been ill at all and was looking forward to a carefree summer. She had finished the school year with all A's and three E's (exceptional) She was also the only student picked for AFROTC. Her plans were to follow in her dad's footsteps with a career in the Air Force.
This was not to be, for on Sunday morning , she awoke with a high fever. I shall not go into detail, but, at 6:00 that evening, she was taken by squad to the hospital where she passed away. This, as you can well imagine, was not only a shock but a breaking of many hearts.
After her funeral, we returned to my mother and father's house and we were all sitting on the back porch, of course, trying to comfort one another through the loss of our precious Cathy Lou.
Suddenly, a white butterfly begin to fly all around. It lit first on our daughter Mary's shoulder, then on my arm, my husband's shoulder, my mother's arm, and, finally on my dad's shoulder. It then flew to the railing where it stayed for a few minutes. Then, it began repeating it's previous journey staying a bit longer on each of us. When it landed once again on my arm, it stayed for what must have been minutes, then flew around all of our heads and flew off into the sky till we could no longer see it.
We had said over and over many times that we just wanted to know that Cathy was happy in her new home in Heaven. We feel this was her sign that we know that she didn't want to leave us, but, that she was happy in her new home.
Now, every time we see a butterfly, especially if it's white, we feel this is our daughter Cathy saying "I am happy in my new home and I'll be waiting for you until you come to live here, too."
She is now "Safely Home In Heaven" .
