"Deeze and Deeze"

When I was just a toddler,
      Just two houses away,
Was a small and friendly grocery
Where mom took me most every day.

      I remember as you entered,
The first thing you would see,
Was a long glass case with shelves
Where I'd gaze 'til mom called me.

It held different kinds of candy,
Most were two for a penny.
My eyes would stare at all of it
'Til mom said, "You can't have any."

My parents had a running charge
Which each week they paid in full.
So, when mom said " Charge it, please,"
I knew soon, on my hand, she'd pull.

But, one day as I played in the yard,
      I ventured out alone.
I sneaked off to that candy case
While mom was on the phone.

I told the lady I knew well,
"I want one of deeze and deeze."
As I watched her place them in a sack,
I smiled and said "Charge it, please."

Course, the lady called mom on the phone
And told her of "my buys."
And, the spanking that mom gave me
Brought tears to my little eyes.

But, after a while when my tears were dried
And I'd promised not to do it again,
Mommy gave me "one of deeze and deeze"
As she turned to hide her grin.

I wrote this poem this morning because a very dear person asked me to put this story in my site.

So, here you are Mindy.
